Lake Tahoe Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge

Join the Lake Tahoe Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge on November 16, 2025, at Camp Richardson for an exciting fundraising event. This annual tradition supports Special Olympics NorCal by inviting participants to take a chilly dip in Lake Tahoe. Whether you jump, skip, or dive into the cold water, you’ll be making a real difference in the lives of athletes. Local law enforcement agencies, including the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, will participate alongside community members in this fun and meaningful event.

Things to Know Before Coming

The event starts at 9 a.m. at Camp Richardson on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. You can participate as an individual or form a team with friends, family, or coworkers. If cold water isn’t for you, register as a “chicken” to skip the plunge while still enjoying the festivities and supporting the cause. Costumes are highly encouraged to add fun to the experience. Schools can participate and earn 30% of the funds they raise. Additional challenges like the Toss the Boss are available for extra fundraising opportunities.

Registration and Fundraising Information

Every participant must raise a minimum of $125 to join the plunge. Registration includes a Polar Plunge T-shirt and access to post-event celebrations. Participants who raise more than the minimum qualify for incentive rewards. Sign up early to have more time for fundraising and costume planning. Teams should select a captain and create a team name.
